"The physician treats but nature heals - Hippocrates"
Herbal medicine is the oldest form of medicine known to mankind. Until
recently all cultures used plants for healing and according to the World Health
Association (WHO) herbal medicine is still used by about 80% of the world's
population.
Herbal medicine uses medicinal plants and natural protocols in the prevention
or treatment of acute and chronic diseases and in the maintenance of optimum
health and well-being.
A clinical herbalist is trained in the same diagnostic techniques as medical
doctors are but uses a more holistic philosophy of healing. The entirety of the
person, their life experiences, and their individuality is taken into
consideration in planning a treatment protocol. Similar symptoms may have many
different causes and each person is unique. The underlying causes are sought,
and appropriate botanical formulas are carefully crafted to meet the
individual's need. An integrated approach to health care is essential and
herbal medicine has a place beside conventional medicine in restoring health
and preventing illness.
Herbal medicine is safe, gentle and effective and uses the body's natural
abilities to heal itself and is suitable for everyone. Some of the common
conditions a herbalist treats are:
